Hindrances to Enterprise Pt. 2(Lack of Capital and Indiscipline)
Hello Nation Builder!
I trust you are well.
In our previous newsletter, we discussed two hindrances to enterprise: Lack of Vision and Unhealthy Comparison, as well as how to overcome them.
Today we will explore two other challenges and how to overcome them:
1. Lack of Capital
This is often one of the challenges commonly decried among young people. While it is true that starting a new business venture can be capital intensive, I want you to see that you are not as constrained as you think. For every vision God has placed in your heart, there is always something to begin with, even though it may not seem substantial to you. This is why you must ensure that you receive God’s vision before starting, so you can be sure of His provision along the way (refer to the previous newsletter where we discussed vision).
“Your skill is the startup capital for your business.” – Temitope Runsewe
During the meeting, our guest pointed out that when you have a business idea, before you start seeking funding, you should be able to raise part of the funds yourself.
This shows how committed you are to your startup. You can do this through saving from your present job or skill. The truth is, you may not get the support you desire if all you have is an idea. You need to do your part by working hard at your skill or getting a job to fund your ideas. It is important to get some level of work going, no matter how small, in order for potential investors to take you seriously.
Always remember that the level of commitment you give to your enterprise determines the level of support you will receive from others.
2. Indiscipline
As I stated last week, many young people have developed apathy towards anything that requires hard work. While they have the desire to be successful and influential, they lack the corresponding ability to put in the work required to make this happen. The reality is that, the results you desire are tied to the work you put into your endeavors. This is because diligence and hard work are prerequisites for success. God will only bless the work of your hands, not your wishes or flamboyant ideas. (Psalm 90:17)
Rather than building castles in the air, find something to do and get to work. If you haven’t been doing so, now is the best time to cultivate habits of discipline in order to enjoy the rewards of enterprise.
Next week, we will discuss some more hindrances to enterprise: the “get rich quick” mentality and the belief that “school is a scam.”
All the best,
David Oyedepo Jnr.
